در آغاز نازی‌ها سراغ کمونیستها را گرفتند تا با خود ببرند و سر به نیست کنند. من سکوت کردم و لام تا کام حرف نزدم چون کمونیست نبودم. بعد (از کمونیستها) در نخ اتحادیه‌های کارگری رفتند اما چون در شمار آنان نیز، نبودم سکوت کردم. یهودی‌ها را که هدف گرفتند بازهم واکنشی نشان ندادم چون یهودی نبودم. تا اینکه سر وقت خودم آمدند...وقتی خودم را دستگیر کردند... دیگر کسی نبود تا صدایی به اعتراض برآرد.
